ABOUT
Modern Malaysian food in a neighbourhood pub, served alongside a creative drinks selection.
We accept reservations for dining and have unreserved tables available for drinks & walk-ins. We welcome dogs in parts of the pub, please mention it in your reservation.
We’re giving brunch a break until September. We’re quieter through the summer and people understandably want to spend the sunny days outside. We’ve done our best to stick at it, but wages and other costs are now so expensive we need to focus on our buzzy evening service. It remains a very tough time for the industry, we can only do what makes financial sense!
New Opening Hours
Wednesday - Saturday: 5-11pm, dinner 5-9
Sunday: 5-9pm, dinner 5-8
All hours are subject to trade.
MENUS
FOOD
Our menu features high-welfare and local produce, based on Head Chef Nicole Yeoh’s Malaysian Chinese heritage. Inspired by her upbringing in Penang, where she learnt how to cook, you should expect her personal take on Malaysian comfort food. Dishes change every month, staying as seasonal as possible and often using local produce as substitutes for ingredients native to Malaysia but unavailable here.
Our food is characterised by the vibrant flavours and aromatic spices found in the cuisine. We make everything from scratch, including our ten-spice powder, bao, sauces and curry pastes. Our meat is sourced locally from high-welfare Hampshire farms and we use free-range eggs from 3 miles away. Fresh fish is sourced from Kingfisher Brixham.
Weekend brunch is based around roti canai, Malaysian flaky flatbread, served with traditional curries or less traditional butcher-cured bacon and curry sausages made with our unique spice paste.
DRINKS
Our wine list of around 30 bottles is carefully chosen to both work with our bold food and to enjoy by themselves. Most come from smaller European producers using low-intervention methods and we’re proud to feature some less well-known styles. We favour fresh, bright and aromatic whites, avoiding anything too delicate, while our reds avoid too much tannin and oak. Orange wines are popular, the structure and flavour that skin contact brings work well with our food. Sparkling wines make an excellent accompaniment to our savoury snacks.
All cocktails are made to order. The menu features well-executed classics alongside novel creations, introducing similar ingredients and flavours to those in our food. Our beer range always includes a local ale plus several IPAs & lagers. A broad selection of alcohol-free drinks has house-made cordials, classic SE Asian soft drinks and single origin teas.
PARTIES
If you’re looking for an informal spot for a wedding, birthday or work celebration, we’re here to help. We have three flexible areas throughout our pub & restaurant where we can offer you a private space for 12-150 friends and family.
We take a bespoke approach to party planning, first understanding your requirements before we suggest food, drink and entertainment to make for a memorable celebration. We have a late license and don’t charge for room hire, we simply agree a minimum spend at the outset.
Our courtyard is perfect for a drinks party and can be combined with our dining room for a self-contained party space with its own entrance and bar. For a larger gathering we can offer you the entire ground floor, allowing you the flexibility of a traditional pub bar with an atmospheric party room to the rear, perfect for live bands and DJs.
